Agate is a very fine-grained form of Quartz. It grows within volcanic lava bubbles known as geodes. Diamond saws are used to slice the Agate it is then ground to remove any imperfections then polished and dyed to enhance and display the beautiful natural banding within.

The Agate stones that are found today come from deposits around the world in places like America, Argentina, Australia, Botswana, Brazil, India, Mexico, Myanmar, and Uruguay. With regular colour layers and bright colours, this variety is one of the most popular. These stones are found all around the world, but Brazil is one of the most productive sources. Many of the richly coloured, banded agates you see for sale are dyed.

These stones contain mossy inclusions of mineral oxides that may be any colour. Stones that present plant-like patterns are called moss agates. Those with feather-like patterns are called plume agates. Those with tree-like, branching patterns are called dendritic agates.

What is a Pendulum?
